Former WWE and ECW superstar Salvatore Bellomo has died aged 67

Former WWE and ECW superstar Salvatore Bellomo passed away over the weekend after losing his battle with cancer.

The Belgian-born heavyweight – who was actually billed from Racalmuto, Sicily, Italy – made his name in WWF in the 1980s.

Notable career highlights for Bellomo included losing to Bobby “The Brain” Heenan in a match at Madison Square Garden and he also wrestled in the first-ever ECW Championship match, losing to Jimmy Snuka.

Bellomo would retire from wrestling in 2006 after spending years on the independent circuit, but he also worked as a trainer for the Belgian Wrestling School located in Terhagen and Flémalle back in Belgium.

In a statement, WWE said: “WWE is saddened to learn that Salvatore Bellomo has passed away at age 67.

“Bellomo competed in WWE in the 1980s, sharing the ring with everyone from Bob Backlund to Bobby ‘The Brain’ Heenan.

“WWE extends its condolences to Bellomo’s family, friends and fans.”In a statement, WWE said: “WWE is saddened to learn that Salvatore Bellomo has passed away at age 67.
